How Can I Learn Light Language?
Sometimes people get in touch with me to ask how I learned light language, or how they might learn it themselves. But, I’m going to start this post with a spoiler, eek! Light language can’t be learned… sorry!
When you hear light language, it sounds like languages. So it isn’t silly to wonder whether a practitioner has gone out and learned those languages to share with others. When I say that light language can’t be learned and can only be activated though, this is because the practitioner or channel does not go out and learn these languages.
I’m absolutely pants at languages and even learning little scraps of languages is always an uphill struggle for me. I’ve found this reassuring on my light language journey, because it’s provided me with no doubt that the languages are indeed channelling through, and when I channel the languages I never stumble or hesitate over words like I usually do when speaking in my native tongue, English, or like I definitely do when trying to speak any other “human” language.
Instead, light language simply activates within an individual, and once this activation spontaneously occurs, they can begin the journey of channelling the languages for fun, curiosity, or to provide healing for themselves and others. One day you can’t channel light language, and the next day you can… It simply turns on like a light bulb that’s been waiting for the proverbial switch to be flicked on. So, how might you activate this beautiful, sleeping gift within yourself?
Read on to discover how light language might activate, how it activated in me, and how you might go about preparing your body, mind and spirit for light language to awaken.
How Does Light Language Activate?
I like to think of light language as a sleeping gift that already exists, laying dormant, within us. I think the universe or a higher power ultimately decides whether we hold these codes or abilities within us, and whether or when they might spark to life. But, there may be things that we can do to encourage a light language activation to occur. Some of the ways to encourage light language to activate are:
- Preparing your body and system for light language to activate – through adopting a healthy lifestyle, intention setting, and through various holistic healing modalities
- Starting a meditation practice, or going deeper with an existing meditation practice
- Receiving light language from a channel who sets the intention to activate it within you
- Exposing yourself to light language: receiving healings and transmissions from a variety of practitioners, or from one or two that you resonate with
- Releasing attachment to outcome: surrendering your desire for light language to activate to the universe, without any attachment to whether it ever happens or not (easier said than done!)… the universe doesn’t like it when we push too hard or cling to an outcome
Ways to Encourage A Light Language Activation
I think it’s important to share the context of what I was practising before I first encountered and started to channel light language. This is because since then, I’ve expanded my knowledge of the “unseen” through various conversations, healings, experiences and trainings, which has led me to believe that I may have been (unconsciously) laying the foundations for light language to activate within me, through various lifestyle choices that I was adopting during the years leading up to it’s emergence.
Here are some practices to consider, in order to prepare your own system to receive light language, based on my experiences.
Preparing Your Body, Mind And Spirit To Channel Light Language
Preparing The Body Through Yoga
In February 2024, I completed a 200 Hour Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training at Sanskar Yoga Shala in Rishikesh, India. During the Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training, I was learning a lot about clearing and cleansing the different channels (or nadis) in the body, to prepare for the rising of kundalini.
Though I had been practising various forms of yoga on and off since 2008, I had no idea about nadis, yogic science and philosophy, or how and why yoga has the lovely effect on us that is so often does. In fact, I found it totally crazy that we leave all of the history, purpose and philosophy of yoga (mostly) out of our typical Western yoga classes.
The word yoga translates roughly as “union”. It is a way to integrate all aspects of ourselves, through the union of mind and body. Yogic science maps out a tried and tested method of spiritual awakening, spanning over 5000 years of lineage and practice. The benefits of yoga that aren’t often talked about in the West, include preparing and strengthening the body for enduring hours of meditation. Sitting in lotus upright for days, weeks, months, or years on end requires muscular and skeletal strength from the body, and it’s also helpful to be able to feed the body with as much prana as possible.
In extremely simple terms, prana is the energy that supports and feeds life – it is not quite breath, but is connected to the breath – it is through the breath that we receive prana until the day we die. All life requires prana to live and sustain itself. And yoga, helps to expand your receptivity to prana – you are able to hold and receive more of it. In yogic science, they even say that you can live off prana alone, which might explain why years-long meditators manage to survive in extreme environments with little to no food or drink.
In yogic science, they believe that as you progress and find balance and awareness within yourself, you may also develop special powers, called Siddhis: material, paranormal, supernatural, or otherwise magical powers, abilities, and attainments that are the products of yogic advancement through sādhanās such as meditation and yoga.
We have over 70,000 nadis (energy channels) in our bodies according to yogic science. These are all connected to the chakras, of which we have many (thousands), but there are 7 main chakras that most people are familiar with:
- Muladhara – Root Chakra
- Svadhisthana – Sacral Chakra
- Manipura – Solar Plexus Chakra
- Anahata – Heart Chakra
- Vishuddhi – Throat Chakra
- Ajna – 3rd Eye Chakra
- Sahasrara – Crown Chakra
Yoga helps us to clean out or clear up impurities in our nadis and open them up, which allows more energy or prana to run through our entire system, including through our 7 main chakras.
How Much Yoga Do You Need To Do?
I think this is down to the individual, but I had been practising various styles of yoga on and off since 2008, but really upped my yoga practice in 2019 – don’t get me wrong, I was faaaaaar from practising yoga every day, but I did regularly practice hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga and kundalini yoga throughout 2019 in particular, maybe 2-3 times a week, in a desperate attempt to sort out my messy mental health.
In yogic science, they say that the haste at which kundalini awakens is also related to birth and the effort made in previous lifetimes to awaken kundalini or attain enlightenment. They don’t believe that any effort goes to waste, but that we carry it from lifetime to lifetime. So, some people may practice yoga once and have a full kundalini awakening. Whereas others might practice yoga and meditation for years without ever achieving kundalini awakening in this lifetime. So let go, and do as much as you feel you want to do to support the awakening of consciousness and energy in your system in this lifetime.
You could also not do any yoga or meditation and still awaken light language. I saw a guy on Instagram who started channelling it during a DMT trip. He’d never heard of it before it started to flow through him. I’ve also been contacted by a couple of people from around the world who started channelling it in a mental hospital, or witnessed someone else channelling it in a mental hospital.
The reason I talk about awakening kundalini and light language interchangeably is because I think for me, the two are linked. I don’t think I’ve had a full kundalini awakening based on what I learned and have read about kundalini awakening on my course, and from accounts of people who have experienced a full rising. I do think I may have had some sort of partial kundalini awakening though, and that awakening kundalini, clearing the nadis or channels, and activating light language are all ultimately linked.
We arrive on an unfolding path of awakening, with many layers of awakening along the way. I think that light language and kundalini are linked because of what I feel in my body when practising kundalini yoga and chanting mantra. I feel energy moving through my body in a form of clairsentience. And when I do certain practises I can literally feel the energy moving and working.
There are various other ways to support and help clear and cleanse the nadis (or energy channels) according to yogic science, including opting for a vegetarian or vegan sattvic diet, practicing yoga, chanting mantra, shatkarma, pranayama and reducing the number of toxins that we expose ourselves to through food, drink, substances, or what we choose to put on our skin.
Reducing Toxins To Support Awakening
I quit drinking alcohol completely in November 2018 to try and support my mental health. Prior to this, my relationship with alcohol was messy – one of numbing and excess. There was lots of fun and partying that I absolutely don’t regret, but I’d gotten to a point where I realised that consuming alcohol pretty much daily for years on end, was hugely hindering and harming my mental health.
As well as limiting my capacity to do other stuff I wanted to do, due to hangovers. I didn’t realise how much alcohol consumption was fuelling depressive thinking patterns within me, until I started introducing breaks from it, which eventually led to giving it up completely.
I also massively reduced the chemicals I put on my skin – in 2017 or thereabouts, I got obsessed with the chemicals in our everyday products and totally cleaned up what I was putting on my body. I ended up making a lot of my own “chemical free” products, such as washing up liquid, clothes wash, soap, shampoo and makeup.
I was also vegan for a number of years and conscious of “chemicals” I was ingesting in processed food. Though admittedly, as a self-confessed food lover (including various types of “junk” food), I’ve never managed to eat an entirely plant-based, wholefood diet for extended periods of time. I was entirely plant based for maybe 6 years, but still ate lots of nommy fried food, replacement meat products, and takeaways.
I also used to fast, practising intermittent fasting on and off for a number of years. This obsession extended to what I drank, so I filtered my drinking and cooking water too. I tried to eat organic where possible, and tried to reduce my exposure to seed oil and PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids), especially when cooking – checking the heat point of oils I used and mostly opting for coconut oil or olive oil when cooking at home.
I’d given up smoking tobacco a few years before, and had given up an e-cigarette that I was permanently attached to a few years later. And of course I was practising yoga and meditation, which was clearing out my energy channels.
I don’t include this information to be self-celebratory, I only share it to give an idea of the circumstances in my life on the lead up to light language activating. I have since lapsed on many of these habits and practices, and am still channelling light language, so I share these experiences without any presumption of whether any of them made or make any difference to whether light language awakens or not.
I know people who eat meat or drink alcohol who channel, some people smoke weed and connect to other plant medicines or substances and channel. It ultimately is a mystery, but what I learned about yogic science made me wonder whether these lifestyle choices had been an influence in light language activating when it did.
Can Light Language Activate If I’m Taking Pharmaceutical Drugs Or Medication?
When light language activated in me I was on antidepressants. I think I was on 20mg of citalopram. Not long before this time (within a couple of years before it awakened) I’d been on antipsychotics (quetiapine, sorry can’t remember the dose but it was for a few months). I also took sleeping pills for insomnia for some time (zopiclone 7mg I think, but I often split them in half).
In terms of physical health and medication, I had mild asthma, and needed to use a blue and brown inhaler sometimes. I’d had it since I was a child. It was aggravated by pollution, exercise, dust, chemicals in products like synthetic smells (so think man made perfumes and aftershaves) and smoking. I say was, because my Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training actually cured my asthma. At the time of writing I haven’t needed to use an inhaler since the start of February 2024 (6 months ago) when the teacher training started, despite needing my inhalers every day in India prior to this point because of the crazy pollution. More on that healing in another post…
Anyway, there’s a lot of bullshit and judgement out there in the spiritual and non-spiritual world about medication, and psychiatric medication. Sometimes people send a message that can make you feel guilty for taking medication or like it might make you less spiritual or “block” you. I think this is dangerous to perpetuate, and while I’m recommending limiting the toxins in your system, I absolutely support and encourage using medication when needed, especially psychiatric medication.
I personally don’t like to stay on psychiatric medications long term, so do try to come off once I’m starting to feel better and am more stable, but antidepressants lifted me out of a place where I was completely broken and could barely care for myself or function, and lifted me to a place where I could start to live normally and work on healing myself. In my experience, being on pharmaceutical medication doesn’t affect whether light language activates or not.
Supporting Awakening With Meditation
I know of one light language channel who activated it through meditation. It spontaneously awoke in her when she was meditating, I don’t think she’d heard of it or received it before. To me, this illustrates that meditation should not be discarded when trying to awaken light language. And even if light language never awakens, meditation will change your life anyway.
Before I received light language for the first time and started channelling it a few months later, I had been setting intentions around healing my mental health for a couple of years. I had also been meditating and taking my meditation practice a lot more seriously for a couple of years. I worked with chakra meditation, vipassana, visualisation, affirmations, pranayama, mantra and yoga nidra.
Activating Light Language Using Holistic Healing Modalities
I was connecting to a range of other practices before light language activated in me, and have explored more since.
Here are some that might help you.
Sound Healing To Activate Light Language
Crystal bowls, gong baths, tuning forks, music medicine, chanting, singing – sound is an incredible healer and very activating. I receive lots of visions and have somatic releases when receiving sound. Of course when receiving light language through the voice – when spoken or sang, this is also a form of sound healing.
We are sound. Vibrating energy. So sound can take us to places that we wouldn’t usually experience during day-to-day life. Intention is also carried on sound, so don’t underestimate the shifts in consciousness that can be experienced through receiving it. It is a powerful medicine.
Awaken Light Language Using Reiki
I was guided towards Reiki before light language started channeling. I have had past life memories and received symbols and messages or downloads during Reiki sessions. So do consider receiving it from a practitioner – booking a session with me, or attuning in it yourself. Once you attune in it you can you use it for self-healing, and to balance your own energy.
Reiki one attunement is for the physical healing symbol and to open up your system to receive and be a conduit for Reiki. You can also use it on family and friends.
Reiki two attunement gives you the distance symbol to send healing to past, present or future, and the mental/emotional healing symbol. After this attunement you can also start practicing Reiki and charging for it as a professional.
Reiki Master attunement gives you another few symbols, and allows you to activate and attune others in Reiki.
If you set an intention at the start of Reiki sessions to activate light language, this form of healing might be particularly potent for preparing your vessel to channel.
Acupuncture To Clear Your Channel
In Chinese Medicine they call them meridians, in yoga they call them nadis. Acupuncture can help to clear blocks in your nadis or channel, and is also beneficial for health.
I was guided by spirit to get acupuncture, so I followed the guidance and got sessions for a while. I was also taking some Chinese herbs. I had a few “experiences” during acupuncture and would recommend it – it’s super relaxing.
And no, it doesn’t (and shouldn’t) hurt. Though occasionally the placing of the needles on places like your scalp can feel odd.
Breathwork To Awaken Light Language And Clear Your Channel
Breathwork is powerful as fuck. Dynamic breathwork and kundalini breathwork are particularly powerful. They often give me a clear and direct channel to spirit, and very strong somatic releases.
When worked with intention, breathwork can answer challenges you need clarity on, elevate your energy, induce visions, facilitate timeline jumps, release stagnant energy and blocked emotions. It is an amazing tool for your toolbox and you should try it.
Receiving Light Language With The Intention To Activate It In You
Another way to encourage light language to start channeling is to book a session with a light language practitioner and set the intention to activate light language for the healing. If it’s ready to activate in you, then this might encourage a remembrance, but whether it activates or not can’t be promised. And it may take a few sessions, a bit of trust, and some patience before it awakens in you.
Exposing Yourself To Light Language Healings
The way in which light language activated within me was by receiving light language healings from others. During my first experience receiving light language, I had zero expectations. I hadn’t ever heard of light language and I hadn’t looked it up online.
I attended a womb healing ceremony that wove together womb healing, a cacao ceremony, reiki, sound healing, journaling and of course light language. The womb healing ceremony was in person in January or February 2020. It was the first time I had received energy healing, reiki or light language, but I did have previous experience, and had experienced visions and other weird unexplainable things, through receiving sound healing and practising yoga.
I had a profound experience the first time I received light language. I received it from two women. I soon after travelled to Bali and went to a light language healing there. I had another profound experience and when the world locked down for covid not long after, I started doing lots of light language healings online with these practitioners. A few months later, I started channelling light language myself through my voice, body and hands.
Getting Out In Nature
Nature is the best medicine, including when it comes to activating light language and grounding energies if you’re going through an awakening. Get out and appreciate her beauty. Find gratitude. Do a ceremony. Honour the land.
Working With Light Language Once It Activates
When and once light language activates within you, it just flows. It’s hard to describe, but you kind of have to park your thinking mind, or pop it to one side, and allow a clear mind for the languages to flow through. If and when they start to flow, it can feel unnatural at first – there might not be a smoothness to the flow of the languages, you might stumble on words, or doubt yourself and doubt that you’re even channelling light language to begin with. But, if you’re at the beginning of this journey and you think light language may have activated already, my advice is to trust and allow time and space for the languages to flow through (…practice!).
